AuthorTube Channel

Jan 10, 2025

Long time no chat! Speaking of, did you notice the new chatbox on the home page? :D

Okay, but the real reason I'm writing today is to inform you all of my new writing vlog series! I revamped my middle school YouTube into an AuthorTube channel (by privating all my old videos and playlists…lol). I just uploaded my first vlog, and I wanted to talk about it!

I've tried my hand at this YouTube thing a few times. Back in middle-high school making random (bad) vlog content, then edits (which landed me some copyright strikes), and finally, my ASMR channel (which I haven't yet given up on). For some reason, I have faith in this AuthorTube channel. With writing and reading as the focus - things I do in my daily life - I feel that vlogging about those hobbies will be so much easier than ASMR. Or editing shows. Or vlogging without purpose. Plus, I'm an adult out of school now. Surely I'll have enough time for editing and planning videos…right?

This first vlog is the start of a series of videos documenting my process of writing my first ever novel! It's called "The Tutor Project" for now, and it's a lesbian dark academia story with gothic/paranormal elements. This video starts with building up my idea of my characters, specifically my POV character and her eventual love interest. I also wanted to brain dump out all my plot ideas to get them out of my head. They do me no good living there where I can easily lose track of them. On paper, even if I change these plot points later, I'll at least have a better chance of referring to them once I get to the outlining stage.

My plans for this channel are vague, but I watch lots of this content in my free time. That will surely give me plenty of inspiration as I move forward. I don't expect to upload often, as I have full-time work commitments and a life outside of these hobbies, but it'll be fun to post here and there. Reading and writing content is the goal overall. I refuse to let myself branch out until I've gotten used to being in front of my camera and this type of content. Maybe eventually I'll find a different calling, but this seems like my best bet right now.

Plus, who knows? Maybe I'll gain viewers/a following and have readers if I ever manage to publish.

I don't believe it should be necessary to be an influencer to garner readers or a publishing deal as a writer, but that's a whole different topic. I'm not doing this for those reasons anyway, it would just be a bonus if it ended up that way. I want to challenge myself to focus more on writing and reading in this new year (happy new year btw). This seems like the perfect way to do so.

Feel free to check out the video embedded above. If you like that kind of content, consider subscribing to see my future with this channel. No pressure, of course. If you prefer to read about my writing woes and reading reviews, then this is the place for you. Just wanted to promote it here once (or maybe a couple times if I'm especially proud of anything I upload in the future) in case anyone here is interested in it. I love AuthorTube and BookTube. They give me motivation to do it myself, ideas for making these hobbies easier on my brain on bad days, and are honestly just entertaining for me. Maybe they will be for you as well.

My favorite channels will be added to mine at some point. Some other writers and bookish people will be listed. If you like this sort of content, then I highly suggest checking them out!

That's all for now. Looking forward to this project in both the vlogs and the writing itself. I'll update here as The Tutor Project moves along as well. Until then, take care!
