Crafts Update

Lately, I've been doing lots more crafts. Hands-on artistic pursuits didn't used to be my thing, but as I've learned to balance my writing with other interests, these other hobbies have emerged. I'll show off some projects (both unfinished and complete), but I mostly just want to chat about my process. Maybe it'll resonate with someone or inspire you to create something yourself.

My main craft projects have been crochet these days. I finally finished a shrug I've been working on intermittently for like…over a year? I kind of hate how the sleeves look and how it fits me, but hey, it's done. Maybe I'll just sell it instead of keeping it for my own wardrobe? I sell jewelry and crochet stuff already, so it could be an option. Or I could try blocking something for the first time ever. I've been told that might help it fit how I want.

I also finished a little crochet top! I plan on embellishing it with metal spikes and chains, just to make it more uniquely me. I'm still so proud of completing this project, especially as quickly as I did. It took a couple weeks when I'm used to taking months for anything this scale. So yay! I've got my spark back for crocheting thanks to this top. If I hadn't started it a few weeks ago, then I wouldn't have picked back up my old projects (like the shrug and also some leg warmers I restarted). I also wouldn't have started what might be my favorite piece I've ever made…

This tiered mini skirt is to die for. I'm making mine in browns, black, and dark green. It's already shaping up to be my favorite piece ever. I'm going to wear the hell out of this come spring and summer. Just gotta finish it first, but at the rate I've been going, that shouldn't be an issue. I love looking for unique patterns that fit my style on YouTube (obviously), but this one takes the cake. I'm so excited about this skirt.

I've also been working on my EP, which isn't crafty inherently I know, but this has given me so many opportunities to get creative. Of course, I wrote and recorded the songs. That's creative. But I've also been brainstorming decorations for my release party and photo shoot with my friends, and MAN it's gonna be so so cool. I'd link my Pinterest boards, but I don't want to spoil it tehe. I also just started working on DIY merch for the release party and maybe Bandcamp! I spray painted words onto each top, then used diluted bleach to paint on the designs. I'm so so proud of how these are turning out, and I really hope my friends are as into them as I am.

As for jewelry and other misc things…I made a necklace for each of my partners for Valentine's day. I think I captured their vibes pretty well with them. I also made little charm guys for my friend's birthday using beads, wire, a can tab, and a button. Something I've seen around, but I hadn't attempted myself yet. It was tricky, but I'm happy with the result! For another friend's birthday, I made a "mixtape" out of printed screenshots of lyrics and notecards. I printed the front and back to look like a cassette then put it all in a tape container. Music has been very foundational to our friendship, so including notes about why each song was picked was very personal to me.

I have some new jewelry-making bits and bobs I really want to try incorporating into my crafts. I also have been inspired by one of my friends to try filet crochet, so with Joann closing I might pick up some discounted materials for that. Maybe I'll sell doilies lol I don't know yet!

I've just been exploding with creativity and love for all things DIY and crafty, so I wanted to blog it out of my system. Please feel free to share in my chatbox any crafts you're working on! I'd love to hear about them!
